Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) 

The Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) is a regional membership-based and donor-supported research and capacity-building organization whose mission is to promote dialogue and interaction between researchers and policy-makers in Eastern and Southern Africa with a view to enhancing the impact of research on policy-making and development planning. In this project, OSSREA will coordinate all research, capacity building, knowledge exchange and dissemination. OSSREA will implement the research project according to the research objectives, in accordance with the IDRC grant agreement. In addition to writing bi-annual technical reports submitted to IDRC, OSSREA will also -manage the budget and administer funds. In addition to being the Project lead, OSSREA will chair of the Project Management and Advisory Committee (PMAC) and will administrator and manage the finances of the project. OSSREA will also coordinate all aspects of the project.

 

IGAD-CEWARN

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) was established in 2002 on the basis of a protocol signed by IGAD Member States to prevent violent conflict so as to serve the aspirations of their people for shared prosperity and a sustained just peace. CEWARN’s mandate is to receive and share information concerning potentially violent conflicts as well as their outbreak and escalation in the IGAD region; undertake and share analyses of that information; develop case scenarios and formulate options for response; share and communicate information analyses and response options; carry out studies on specific types and areas of conflict in the IGAD region. At the heart of the functionality of the CEWARN Mechanism is data collection, analysis and the timely dissemination of information and knowledge to the right people and institutions.  CEWARN is an interwoven network of governmental and non-governmental organizations that operate with complementary mandates in peace and development matters at local, national and regional levels.             

IGAD  CEWARN will utilize the  COVISAF data, which would have been developed by the project. The  knowledge and experiences drawn from the project will be  shared among IGAD Member States, African Union and bilateral practitioners. Additionally, the consortium members will use the existing IGAD platform to exchange knowledge with policy makers in at least 3 capacity building and knowledge dialogue workshops with key stakeholders annually –The Strategic Management Board for COVID-19 (SMB).IGAD-CEWARN- is the Convener of IGAD Member States. IGAD CEWARN will chair of the Strategic Management Board. Host of the COVISAF.

 

Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association-(CCRDA-Ethiopia)

Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (CCRDA) formerly known as CRDA is an indigenous non-profit umbrella organization. It is an association of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) engaged in relief, rehabilitation, and diverse developmental activities focusing on poverty alleviation and. It is the first legally registered association of NGOs/CSOs operating in Ethiopia and serves as a forum for collective vision and action. It allows resource mobilization and the sharing of experiences for effective and sustained impact. CCRDA builds capacity to ensure efficiency and quality are met, efforts are not duplicated and lessons can be learnt. All these are geared towards championing l transformational development. -(CCRDA) Umbrella CSO in Ethiopia. On the National COVID-19 Taskforce will bring the knowledge to the research team.

 

Makerere University

Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious English Universities in Africa. In January of that year, the school, which was later renamed Uganda Technical College, opened its doors to 14 day students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics.The College soon began offering various other courses in Medical Care, Agriculture , Veterinary Sciences and Teacher Training. It expanded over the years to become a Center for Higher Education in East Africa in 1935. In 1937, the College started developing into an institution of higher education, offering post-school certificate courses.In 1949, it became a University College affiliated to the University College of London, offering courses leading to the general degrees of its then mother institution.With the establishment of the University of East Africa in June 29, 1963, the special relationship with the University of London came to a close and degrees of the University of East Africa were instituted. 

On July 1, 1970, Makerere became an independent national university of the Republic of Uganda, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses leading to its own awards. Makerere University offers not only day but also evening and external study programmes to a student body of about 35,000 undergraduates and 3,000 postgraduates (both Ugandan and foreign). It is also a very active centre for research. The University transitioned from the Faculty-based to the collegiate system on 1st July 2011 and as of Friday 30th December 2011, Makerere University officially transformed into a Collegiate University with 9 Constituent Colleges and as at 1st July 2014, 10 Constituent Colleges including the School of Law, all operating as semi-autonomous units of the University.
