RESSESA stands for Research School for Social Sciences in Eastern and Southern Africa. The RESSESA project was developed after several scoping studies covering the human resources needs of the East African region conducted by the EAC and OSSREA’s  studies on the state of Ph.D training and capacity in eight African universities. This project brings together nine universities in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) and the Mwalimu Nyerere Centre for Peace Research at the East African Community, to fast track their Ph.D. programmes to ensure that they can produce high quality and an adequate number of Ph.D. graduates within the shortest time possible. In so doing, the project will contribute to satisfy the emerging demands of highly skilled human power in the region as indicated in the 4th Development Strategy of the EAC. It will also address the needs of the universities  for increased number of academicians and researchers as well as improve their rating and status both at continental and global levels.
