Register of Social Scientists

OSSREA produced the first edition of the Register in 1994. The main aim of publishing the Register was to enhance the visibility of social scientists in the region by highlighting their academic and research profiles. The other purposes of the Register are: a) to facilitate networking and collaboration between social scientists in the South as well as between them and peers in the North; b) to help avoid duplication of efforts in research activities; c) to provide a handy database of experts for those looking for reviewers and assessors of research outputs, external examiners for post-graduate degree candidates, or consultants for various projects.

The second edition of the Register is different from the first one in many ways. Most of the experts included in the second edition did not appear in the first one. A minimum criteria was set for inclusion in the second edition, which is possession of at least a Master’s degree and one research publication. New areas covered in the second edition include: membership in professional associations, research projects, number and type of publications, experience in peer reviewing and journal editing. In addition, the second edition is also provided with a subject and name index, for easy reference. These indices have been produced online, and will be regularly up dated.
