A paper titled “Market Access and Food Security in the Pastoral Areas of Ethiopia”, by Tegegne Teka and Alemayehu Azeze, has now been published in the proceedings titled Explaining Economic Growth and Development in Ethiopia, and edited by Mulat Demeke and Tassew Woldehanna. The paper was presented at the Tenth Annual Conference on the Ethiopian Economy, which was organized by the Ethiopian Economic Association and the Department of Economics, Addis Ababa University, and held in Nazareth, Ethiopia, from 3-5 November 2000.
A new collaborative research project on “Post-Drought Recovery Strategies among the Pastoral Households in the Horn of Africa” is under formulation. The project is expected to be completed before the end of 2002
The Dryland Husbandry Project (DHP) Gets an Extension
Following an external evaluation meeting in Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania, from 14-15 September 2001, DHP has been extended for a period of nine months. Further extension of the project is under discussion.
DHP is a regional action-research project funded by Sida/SAREC. It started in 1995 and is coordinated by OSSREA. At present, the project is in operation in selected dry areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda, in collaboration with Mekelle University, University of Nairobi, University of Khartoum, and Makerere University, respectively.
