OSSREA Participates in a Book Launching Ceremony

Dr. Tegegne Teka, OSSREA’s Regional Project Coordinator, participated in a book launching ceremony arranged by the National Committee on Traditional Practices in Ethiopia (NCTPE), on 9th October 2003, at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The book that was published by NCTPE is titled: “Ethiopia: Harmful Traditional Practices”. Dr. Tegegne in his congratulatory speech appreciated the efforts of NCTPE for the publication of a book that, among other things, provides information on harmful traditional practices, contributes to knowledge and invites action. He added that the book is recommended for policy-makers, NGOs and practitioners and it can also be used as a manual in training institutions.

OSSREA was first involved in the Baseline Survey on Harmful Traditional Practices (HTP) in Ethiopia towards the end of 1995. The Baseline Survey on HTP was implemented by NCTPE, facilitated by OSSREA and funded by NORAD. OSSREA worked with NCTPE until December 1999. Its role was facilitation, administration and consultation.

The book launching ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Ambassador Teshome Toga, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture; Her Excellency Ambassador Ms. Mette Ravn, the Royal Norwegian Embassy; W/o Berhane Raswork, President of ICA; and W/ro Ethiopia Beyene, Women’s Standing Committee, House of People’s Representative.
