Integrating Gender Issues in Multi-disciplinary Research in Africa
OSSREA has launched a programme entitled ‘Integrating Gender Issues in Multidisciplinary Research in Africa’. As a research organisation committed to promoting social science research and capacity building of various research and teaching institutions in the region, OSSREA has taken the first step to expand its programme on gender issues. OSSREA’s core interest in the anticipated programme lies in expanding multidisciplinary research, capacity building through training, organising forums to disseminate research findings and exchanging experiences within the Eastern and Southern Africa region. The objectives of the proposed project are to:
Sensitise the Eastern and Southern African research community on gender mainstreaming.
Organise research programs and promote multidisciplinary gender research.
Encourage the development of gender frameworks that reflect the realities in Africa.
Promote curriculum development for universities and academic institutions in the region.
Build capacity of the teaching and research staff of universities and research institutions in the region.
In order to initiate the programme, OSSREA will organise a planning meeting for various selected scholars, researchers and practitioners throughout the region from 13-14 September 2004 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting is expected to assist OSSREA in further articulating its intervention schemes and activities. The participants of the meeting are to be identified through our liaison officers in OSSREA member countries. Therefore, all those that are interested to take part in this programme are encouraged to contact OSSREA or the liaison officers in their respective countries.
