Applications for the 16th Gender Issues and the 18th Social Science Research Grant Competitions
Announcements for the 16th Gender Issues and the 18th Social Science Research Grant Competitions were made to eligible individuals in Eastern and Southern Africa through brochures, posters, and the OSSREA Bulletin and website. A total of 187 applications were received, which indicate the huge demand for the programmes.
General Profile of the Applicants
The Eighteenth Social Science Research Award Competition was announced on 12th February 2004 and the deadline for submitting proposals was set for 30th April 2004. In the set time span for submission of applications, a total of 99 applications were received.
Concerning The Sixteenth Gender Issues Research Award Competition, the announcement date and deadline was the same as for the Eighteenth Social Science Research Competition.
The country breakdown of the applicants for the Eighteenth Social Science Competition is: Ethiopia (23), Kenya (30), Sudan (3), Tanzania (14), Uganda (15), Zimbabwe (5), South Africa (2), Malawi (4) and one each from Mozambique, Zambia and Lesotho. Below is a detailed profile of the applicants.
A total of 88 applications for the Gender Issues Research Competition were received. The country breakdown of the applicants was as follows: Ethiopia (17), Kenya (37), Mauritius (2), Sudan (2), Tanzania (12), Uganda (8), Zambia (2), Zimbabwe (5) and one each from Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland.
