Participates in Workshops, Seminars and Discussions
Dr. Tegegne Teka represented OSSREA and attended the following workshops, seminars and discussions.
The International Day on Zero Tolerance to Female Genetal Mutulation (FGM). The meeting was held on 6th February 2004 in the UN Conference Centre, Addis Abeba. It was organised by the Inter-African Committee on Harmful Traditional Practices. The President of Ethiopia addressed the meeting.
“Food Security Issues in Ethiopia, Comparisons and Contrasts between Highland and Lowland Areas”, was presented by Dr. Stephen Devereux, Institute of Development Studies /IDS/ at the University of Sussex. The discussion was held at the Sheraton Hotel on 16th February 2004, Addis Abeba. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) - Ethiopia and Pastoralist Communication Initiative (PCI) organised the discussion.
“New Thinking and Understanding on Relationships Between Citizens and Government Institutions”, was presented by Professor Robert Chambers from the Institute of Development Studies /IDS/, University of Sussex. The discussion took place at the Hilton Hotel on 19th March 2004. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs & Pastoralist Communication Initiative (UNOCHA-PCI) organised the one-day seminar.
“Ethnic Federalism: the Challenge for Ethiopia.” This workshop was organised by Addis Ababa University and the British Council in Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Federal Affairs. Various papers on the concept of ethnicity and on the problems of implementing ethnic federalism were raised and discussed. Invited academicians presented the experience of Nigeria and India. The workshop was held in Ras Makonen Hall, Addis Ababa University, 14 –16 April 2004.
“Pastoralism and Policy Experiences of Other Countries”. This was a one-day seminar and discussion organised by the Pastoralist Affairs Standing Committee, in the Federal Parliament of Ethiopia and UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs - Pastoralist Communication Initiative (UNOCHA-PCI). Prof. Jeremy Swift, from IDS, University Sussex, and an expert in pastoralism presented a paper. The seminar and discussion were conducted on 30th April 2004 in the Ethiopian Parliament, Addis Ababa.
