DHP's action-oriented activities and its participatory development were appreciated. Government extension agents in the Ministry of Agriculture and National Agricultural Research Organisation have used DHP's approach to enhance development at the grassroots level. DHP has helped new organization emerge.
The Minister of Agriculture officially declared that his Ministry is preparing rules and regulations for the creation of a dryland centre in Uganda. The centre will start work on the approval of Parliament. DHP Uganda had great influence in the establishment of this centre. Moreover, the Faculty of Agriculture, Makerere University, has introduced a new curriculum and renamed the old Department of Animal Science as the Department of Animal Science and Range Management. As the Faculty of Agriculture is implementing DHP, the influence that the project has in the creation of the new department is critical. The DHP conclusive workshop was organised by Prof. E. Sabiiti, the National Co-ordinator of DHP Uganda. Dr. Tegegne Teka, Regional Co-ordinator of DHP, presented the regional dimension of DHP with a focus on DHP Uganda. The meeting was closed by the Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University. About forty people attended the workshop.
