OSSREA Liaison Officers’ Meeting
The annual OSSREA Liaison Officers’ Meeting was held from 19th – 20th April 2004 at Queen of Sheba Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting discussed, among other matters, the reports of the liaison officers and the Chapters’ plan for the year 2004.
The Executive Secretary of OSSREA, Dr. Alfred G. Nhema officially opened the meeting. In his speech, Dr. Nhema welcomed the participants and stressed that none of the achievements of OSSREA would have been possible without the cooperation, assistance, professional dedication and exemplary contribution of the liaison officers who freely devoted their time and energy to OSSREA’s cause. The Executive Secretary noted that OSSREA has grown into a major organization in the region and was striving to make a change at the grassroots level. More than ever, OSSREA had expanded its reach to cover the entire sub-region. At the same time, he pointed out that in terms of project and activities, OSSREA is currently embarking on several new initiatives that are of immense benefit to the development endeavors of the region and the continent.
The liaison officers presented their individual reports highlighting the activities carried out by the Chapters in 2003.
On the second day, an official reception for the liaison officers was held at the OSSREA Secretariat conference hall. Several ambassadors and other distinguished invited guests were present.
On this occasion Dr. Alfred G. Nhema, the Executive Secretary, gave a speech highlighting the role OSSREA is playing in the region.
