Training in Social Science Research Methodology
The Organisation for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) is a regional non-governmental research organisation with its headquarters based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
OSSREA has recognised the need for upgrading the research skills of its members so as to build the teaching and research capacity of the institutions in Eastern and Southern African countries where it has its chapters. To this end, OSSREA’s Research Methodology Institute has started offering short-term training in social science research methodology.
Course Content
- Emerging thinking in social science research
- Ethical issues in social science research
- Mainstreaming gender and environmental issues
- Developing research proposals
- Choosing study approaches and designs
- Planning and managing social science research
- Writing a research report.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum of BA degree in the social sciences
Between 20 – 35 years of age
At least 2 years of experience in social science research.
Application Requirements
Detailed curriculum vitae
Copies of the degrees from an accredited university or equivalent institution
Evidence of previous experience in research
Endorsement letter from the applicant’s employer, which certifies the relevance of such training to the institution’s research activities.
Trainee Selection
A jury will examine the applications and select eligible candidates for the training. The short-listed applicants will then be notified.
Training Cost
OSSREA will cover travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses during the training period for a limited number of the short-listed candidates. Preference will be given to applicants based in educational and research institutions.
However, other successful candidates will be asked to find sponsors. Details on the institutional fees can be obtained by contacting the OSSREA secretariat.
