Winners of the OSSREA Research Grant Programmes
The Senior Scholars Research Grant Programme, 2005
The selection of winners in the Senior Scholars Research Grant Programme for 2005 was finalised, and the grantees were identified. The research proposals and application documents of the applicants were reviewed by a panel of scholars on 24 November 2005, following which, the winners were informed and the workshop organised in Addis Ababa from 12 to 13 December 2005. During the workshop the winners presented their proposals and received constructive comments from discussants who had the opportunity to review the various proposals prior to the workshop. In addition to that, participants of the workshop also had the chance to deliberate on the various proposed research issues. The winners of the 2005 programme and their respective titles are indicated below.

The Post-Doctoral Fellowship Grant Programme, 2005
The winners of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Grant for the year 2005 were selected after the proposals and application materials of applicants had been reviewed by a panel of scholars. The selection took place on 24 November 2005. The winners were invited to attend the winners' workshop which was organised from 12 to 13 December 2005 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Aside from the presentation of the grantees, the proposals were reviewed and discussed by various discussants at the workshop. The following were the winners selected for the year 2005 grant in the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Grant Programme.

The Sabbatical Research Grant Programme - 2005
In 2005, the jury for the Sabbatical Research Grant Competition selected the following six winners. Out of these, five attended the winners’ workshop and all the six signed grant agreements with OSSREA:

The winners attended the workshop organized for them from 12 –13 December 2005. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the proposed studies and to offer the grantees an opportunity to elaborate on their revised proposals.

Winners of the Sabbatical Research Grant Programme, 2005
Training in Gender Mainstreaming
OSSREA's Gender Training Institute (OGTI) organised its first training programme in gender mainstreaming from 13 to 17 December 2005 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The training was attended by nine participants from eastern and southern Africa who represented various universities, research institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations. The facilitators for the training were drawn from various countries within the region. The themes covered in the programme included, among others, gender analysis, strategies and modalities in gender mainstreaming, opportunities for gender mainstreaming in African countries, indicators of monitoring and evaluation, and mainstreaming gender in organisations.
