DHP-Sudan Holds Its National Workshop

The Dryland Husbandry Project (DHP) of Sudan held its forum on ‘Sudan Experience for Sustainability Development in Drylands at Eastern Region’. The theme of the forum was: Rehabilitation of Pastoral Environment for the Enhancement of Poverty Alleviation and Food Security. The forum was held in December 2003 in Khartoum. Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abu Elnour representing the Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, Prof. Abdel Malik Abdela Rahman, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Khartoum, opened the national workshop. Dr Tegegne Teka, the Regional Project Co-ordinator of DHP/OSSREA, addressed the workshop along with the Chairman of the National Steering Committee of DHP Sudan, Prof. Hashim El Hadi, and the National Co-ordinator of DHP Sudan, Prof. Muna M. Ahmed. Papers on the work done by DHP Sudan were presented. Representatives of government organisations, NGOs, researchers and the academia were present at the workshop. A total of about 100 people attended the workshop. Workshop participants appreciated the work done by DHP Sudan in the eastern part of the country and many recommended that duplication of DHP activities in other parts of the Sudan could be of benefit to the people at the grassroots level.
