National Chapter Activities

In 2003, OSSREA adopted a policy of decentralizing some of its activities to the chapter level. As a result of that policy, two OSSREA Research Methodology Trainings were held at the sub-regional level in Kenya (17th – 30th November 2003) and in South Africa (8th – 19th December 2003).

Another most important achievement of OSSREA in 2003 was that the Secretariat embarked on an expansion exercise of Chapter membership. To that effect, a new OSSREA Chapter was established in Mauritius, which is expected to cover operations in Madagascar, the Seychelles and Comoros Islands, increasing the total number of OSSREA Chapters to 18.

National workshops provide a forum to discuss topical issues in each country. Researchers, policy makers, and civil society groups in each country attend the national workshops. The Chapters that held their national workshops in 2003 are given in the following table.
