Abstract: In spite of the critical role women play in the development of the economy, there are several problems facing women in their efforts to upgrade themselves into both the formal and informal sector market where incomes are higher, working conditions more flexible and fluid and the conditions much better. Women are engaged in a variety of non-agricultural enterprises in the urban areas. Although their presence is usually evident, little qualitative and qualitative data has been collected which provide insights into the planning and implementation of these various enterprises. This study was conceived in the overall context of the current rural/urban development strategy especially with respect to one aspect of the strategy, namely; the role of small-scale informal sector enterprises in promoting both individual and national economic development. The study focused on several women entrepreneurs participating in various income-generating activities. Specifically, the study sought to know the types of women
