Abstract: The paper seeks to argue that while population dynamics and environmental changes are closely interrelated, linkages between environmental damage and rapid population growth are often overstated and therefore misleading. The author proposes that the underlying and fundamental causes for the deleterious trends in the environment lie beyond population dynamics and hence solutions to environmental problems must be sought beyond human population management and control. The paper concludes by stating that there is a growing consensus that global environmental resource is adequate to meet the demands of existing populations and future generations. What is lacking is the political will to make development in both the more developed and less developed regions sustainable.
