of papers selected from those presented at an OSSREA workshop devoted to
research priorities in the social sciences in eastern Africa and which address
which such issues as the status of the existing social sciences knowledge in the
region; the adequacy of the conceptual and analytic tools to understand social,
political, economic and cultural conditions in the region; gaps in the fields of
politics, management, national economies, rural development, resources
management and women studies that need to be urgently filled by fresh research;
