Human Adaptation in East African Drylands Project

This is a collaborative research project of OSSREA and Center for Development Studies, University of Bergen, Norway.

Objectives

The overall objective of the African Drylands Project is to understand human adaptation in the African drylands and propose appropriate intervention to improve livelihoods in these areas. Specific objectives include,

  • Understanding of natural resource management in time and space involving arid and semi-arid environments and the various systematic dynamics;  
  • Understanding of political and economic issues in these areas via-à-vis the role of the state; and  
  • Understanding of the available human resource base and develop the possible network to undertake research on this issue.  

Project Period  

1995-2002.  

Current Status

Completed.  

Countries Covered

Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
