Teaching information ethics in Africa
An academic workshop on information ethics took place on 4 and 5 July 2011 at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. A number of delegates from universities in Africa, Europe and the United States of America gathered to discuss the principles related to the development of a curriculum for teaching information ethics in Africa.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today condemned the murder, in separate incidents, of two Honduran broadcast journalists: Nery Jeremías Orellana, shot down on 14 July, and TV reporter Adan Benítez who was killed on 4 July. The Director-General also called for a thorough investigation into these killings.

Improving social impact of community centres through better access to information in Namibia
A meeting for the development and adoption of an inclusive information society action plan will be organized in Tsumeb (Oshikoto, Namibia) from 26 to 27 July 2011. This meeting is a follow-up to the survey on access to information and diversification of content among different community centres present in the Oshikoto region, which took place last April. The Oshikoto region had been chosen for the survey after a consultation with the Namibian Ministry of Education and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
